Official leave times due to employees are allocated as follows:
- Annual Leave
Employees are entitled to 15 working days leave annually excluding any free weekends that may fall within this period. If a weekend that an employee is registered to work on, falls into the period of leave requested, then such a weekend will ne construed as working days. Annual leave is only due to an employee after completion of one year’s unbroken service. Any pro-rata leave requests can only be reviewed and granted at the behest of the Management of Eersterust Care and Training Centre.
2. Sick Leave
Employees are entitled to 12 working days sick leave annually. All employees are to inform the CEO/Manager timeously that they will be absent from work due to a medical condition. Medical Certificates must be obtained by the employee at his/her own cost and must be submitted to the CEO/Manager as proof of absenteeism due to a medical condition.
3. Compassionate Leave
Employees are entitled to three working days compassionate leave annually. Compassionate leave is applicable for close relatives only, i.e. Mother, Father, Wife, Husband and Children including Grand-Children.
The above leave period are guidelines as set out in the Government Gazette applicable to the Industrial labour Relations Act.
4.1 If a certified certificate is not produced by an employee as proof of why sick leave was taken, then the day/days that the employee was absent from work will be deemed to be absent without leave and such day/days will be deducted from any current annual leave due and if no current annual leave is due, it will be construed a “no work no pay” leave due to the employee.
4.2 If an employee supersedes his/her annual or compassionate leave periods, then the day/days that the employee was absent from work will be deemed to be absent without leave and such days will be deducted from any current leave due and if no current annual leave is due, it will be construed a “no work no pay” leave due to the employee.
4.3 Once an employee has used up his/her annual leave, sick leave or compassionate leave excluding exceptional circumstances, it will be deemed that any unauthorized leave taken thereafter will be considered to be absent without leave. An adjustment will be made according to the discretion of the Management of the Organisation.
4.4 All annual leave application must be submitted to the administration department of the Organisation on or before the end of February of the current year. These applications will be reviewed by the Management of the Organisation for demographical purposes and the applicant will be duly informed of the decision taken. Failing to submit an application for leave will result in the management of the Organisation setting leave for the relevant employee at their discretion.
4.5 No leave due may be accumulated or altered from the initial leave application submitted. Once annual leave has been granted and/or allocated, the employee must adhere to such times unless altered at the discretion of the Management.
